What is recovery to you?

Recovery. What is it really? Is it the physical action of getting over an injury? The mental and physical struggle of getting over an addiction? The fight to get out of bed every day to be able to just barely function when all you feel capable of is crying and crying? Is it being able to finally shake the feeling of worthlessness after a heartbreak? Answer: all of the above. Recovery is specialized and very personal. We all have demons to recover from. Recovering from anything is never easy. And we make it even harder on ourselves when we don't forgive ourselves. Not all things that we have to recover from are we to blame for. But those we are: take ownership,forgive yourself and then just look forwards. It's hard ,I know. Don't dwell. And celebrate every day of your recovery. Every minute. Because at the end of the day recovery is worth it. You are worth it.

@ChassyMom

Here is my favorite definition of what recovery is, recovery as a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential.

Reason why this definition stands out to me the most,

1- Recovery is not a destination. It's my journey. 2- I can only live my own recovery. 3- As anyone can relate, I live to reach my full potential as a whole person vs I am complete after recovery.
