A Talk on Self-Care with Amy
Interviewee: @29amy
What is your idea of spending a balanced time on 7cups? Share your idea of how a good day looks like on 7cups, for you.
An unbalanced time spent on 7 Cups will result in stress and exhaustion, on the contrary, a balanced time spent on 7 Cups will be enjoyable and satisfying. A perfect day in 7 Cups for me consists of checking in with members and chatting with a few new members, fun times spend in Teen Listeners Chatroom, supporting members in support rooms, and last but not least, doing my community tasks here in 7 Cups!
What challenges did you face in trying to strike that balance?
I found that for me personally, there are 2 principal obstacles that are preventing me to fulfill the balance. One is that I often overwork myself by accepting too many new members and the other is my life outside of 7 Cups. Oftentimes, I will accept a request from a member right after a conversation, and that usually overwhelms me as I didn’t give myself the time to process and pull myself out of the situation. In terms of my life outside of 7 Cups, it is primarily caused by the workload school provided, then there are the university applications, family events, tutoring my sibling and other volunteer works that I have committed.
How did you try to deal with those challenges?
Acknowledging that I am accepting members way faster than I am capable of will help me reflect upon it. I will try to stop myself from accepting and force myself to walk around to calm down before I continue! Doing daily self-cares and attending fun sessions hosted in 7 Cups can also spare me from overwhelming myself. As for my life outside of 7 Cups, creating a schedule so I can balance my school life and 7 Cups will help significantly.
What are the benefits of improving your balance for the time you spend on cups?
The reason that I am here is to support others and get inspired, but overworking myself actually does the opposite of what I want! I will not be able to support others and will not bring positivity in myself! Being a listener does not mean that we have to sacrifice ourselves for others, we are making a difference by taking care of ourselves too!
What message would you like to give to the cupsers who have come to be negatively attached to cups, in one of the many ways?
As 7 Cups quotes, “we can not pour from an empty cup!” so please take good care of ourselves before we can help others! This ensures our mental wellness as well as guarantees our listening qualities! Self-care practices and self-love will be helpful!
