Conquering my Internet Addiction..

Perhaps this is the very pinnacle of irony that I want to use the internet to help me deal with an addiction. I need to use the internet for a variety of things, so cutting it entirely isn't likely to happen. But what I want to do is have a period of 2 to 3 hours a day where I do not use the internet for anything. No phone, no computer, just me, the dog, a walk, or a book.

I will log my daily progress and write a small blurb about each day.

Had a long one today, from about 1.30 to 10 pm. Went to a sauna hung out with friends and then had dinner with them. Phone was turned off the entire time as the cold weather caused the battery to go wonky. :P

Another fine night of dog walking and grapes of wrath from about 7.30 to 10ish, no devices, no internet.

I didn't log yesterday, but I did take my two hours of no internet time.

Today, as soon as I turn off my computer, I aim to go walk my dog, take a hot shower, and go to bed early for some reading before sleep. I think I'm going to forgo getting back on the computer tonight to see if I sleep any differently. Might have to try it for a few days to see if there is a pattern.

Last night, did my 2+ hours as mostly dog walking and house cleaning. Tonight going to get my 2 hours in right before bed with some more dog walking and reading.

Going to clonk out and go read for the rest of the night. Not even sure I'll be able to stay awake for the next 2 hours. Totally.. completely wiped out.

Real talk time yall..

Last night I was really out out it. I wanted to go to bed around 9 but ended up staying up later watching youtube videos. I finally stumbled to bed around 10 ish and remembered I still needed to do 2 hours of no internet time that I had sworn up and down on these here forums that I would do.

Turns out I was sound asleep by 10.30.

Lol.

I was really tired.

Anyhow, will adjust for that tonight and really work a bit harder on making sure I get that beautiful no devices, no computer time in around 8 o clock tonight. Having failed one day isn't that big of a deal, I wasn't expecting a perfect record either. Sometimes a small failure can lead to bigger gains. I also like to think that I'm not so thin skinned that a small set back is going to send me completely off the rails.

So yeah, tonight, around 8 to get those 2 hours of time in before bed. I won't be as tired tonight and I'll start it earlier. I purchased a pink light bulb, which I understand to be very helpful in maintaining a good sense of sleep hygeine. I have it in my bedroom. It was a little weird the first night or two, but now I hardly even notice it. I can't say I notice any reall differences in my ability to get to sleep due to the light, but the lack of stimulation from my phone and computer does seem to be noticable. I find now I'm in bed for an hour before I go to sleep and I'm more relaxed and calmer as I'm reading.

I think I definitely need to continue onwards with this trend. My alarm clock isn't living up to the task of keeping me apprised of the time as it keeps dying on me. I'm going to buy a better one and kick the iphone out of my bedroom entirely. No tweets, no phone calls, no whatever messages to wake me up at night.

Last night, turned the computer off around 9 pm. I walked the dog and read till a little after 11. Slept fairly well.

Tonight, I think I'm going to try to switch everything off earlier so I can get to be a bit earlier. Have a long day tomorrow.

Got my two hours in last night and was checking the clock to get back on the 2nd hour. Kind of sad. :P

just got 2 hours in while going out to dinner with a coworker. Tomorrow I aim to buy a nice watch to keep from needing my phone for the time. Had to get back online to do a 7 cups training otherwise I'd be out walking my dog and in bed as soon as I got home.

It's working. Need to refine it a bit and this week I want to set a shut off time for turning all devices off at. So like 8 pm at night, everything gets turned off until morning.
