Good vibes only!

Okay, the title is a complete bait. But I wanted to explor some inputs and ideas how to make this heard within our sub comunities.

The actual post title should read " What is toxic positivty".

At this point you've all heard self-care rounds in our social media on dally basis. Ideas that encourages people to ONLY be happy, look on the brighter side, and being positive. Is it just me? or are these things that's marinating our society not all that useful. I dare to say it's actually quite toxic to our recovery.

Below are some examples of toxic positivity that are disguised as "inspirational". But what are thsee phrases telling us?

So you might be wondering how we can avoid toxic positivity. I am still trying to figure it out so bare with me if I am incorrect or I am missing some points here.

Instead of "GOOD VIBES ONLY: We can say, " All Vibes are welcome" Because every feeling should be validated and not just the "Good" ones.

Instead of saying " Everything will be FINE!" we say " Everything wil be fine at the end, but if it's not, it's not the end".

I don't think some of us are doing it on purpose, it's never our intention to spread something toxic. Perhaps if we raise an awareness, we can start to make people not be so afraid of their own feelings.

I didn't want to make this post too long, so here it is. Any thoughts, any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!

@lovelywhisper66 I realized this might of not been under sex and addiction support. Please move this thread to where you think it's appropriate. Thanks! :-)

@Jackie

Hi Jackie, happy Friday! I moved this thread to another sub-forum (feel free to let me know if you'd like it elsewhere).

I like how you illustrate being open-minded about all "vibes." To me, it is similar to accepting all emotions, not just the positive ones. Thanks for the lovely post, and keep up the amazing job! :)
