How does your addiction effect you?
Living with an addiction can cause multiple effects on your every day life. These may be positive or negative, depending on your addiction. Some of us are addicted to the wrong things (such as drugs), whereas some of us may have an addiction to something that in turn may be positive (such as working and saving money). Below, post a brief message of your addiction and what positive and negative effects it has on you in your daily life.
My addiction was ice and GHB use. Although it was bad for me, I felt as though the positive and negative effects were;
Positive:- ice gave me energy, I needed it to keep me awake and to keep me motivated throughout the day.
Negative:-it was bad for my health, career, criminal record, friendships/relationships, money, assets and a lot more. In the end it wasn't near worth it at all.
Positive:- GHB & GBL helped me relax and keep calm, though at the same time it also gave me confidence in social interactions with friends and new people.
Negative:- GHB (Gamma-HydroxyButyric Acid) and GBL (Gamma-Butyrolactone) is highly addictive and very bad for your body. Imagine consuming between 10-40ml+ of potent cleaning chemicals each day. The addiction also comes along with strong withdrawal symptoms such as severe muscle cramping. It is one of the most dangerous drugs to consume, and to be adddicted to.
How does your addiction effect you? No matter what your addiction may be, share it with us below. We would love to here your input!
@JoshMain, thank you for this question!
I think I may say that my addiction is to the safety that my home provides me. I wouldn't say I'm agoraphobic, I actually like going out and talk to people. And it's caused by my anxiety and depression, which I'm suffering for almost 10 years.
Positives: I have time for myself which many people don't, I also spend more time with my parents, which many people also can't. I have time to upgrade my skills, to learn new stuff. I have time to sleep enough.
Negatives: I don't actually sleep enough. I can't go to bed in normal hours, and I go to bed tired, then I wake up tired. I'm tired all day. I also don't use the time I have to actually make something meaningful and important, even to work on my skills. I've tried many times, but when anxiety hits me, the vibe is gone and I leave everything I've started. In these 10 years of mostly staying at home, I've been working 2 times for several months, and mostly freelance in the other time. It happens very rarely. So money are also not coming often. I'm losing social skills and I fear that I would not be able to start a normal job, which I want to do. I also fear that I will not be able to keep the job if I get one, because of my kind of anti social behavior. Of course that leads to more anxiety. I still leave with my parents, I never lived alone, I never moved out with my current boyfriend, I never got my bachelor degree, I never fulfilled my dream to travel around the world.
For such a social person as I am, it's very hard to be in that situation. And I've tried so many time to get myself out of it, but even if I hate to stay between these 4 walls all day, in the end of the day, I feel good there. Besides everything, I think I made a in improvement in the last year, at least in my thinking.
And I'm trying to discipline myself more. I hope I will have the strenght to end all of this.
Alcohol and tobaco...
Few of us search addictions for thrills or joy, most of us fall prey to tgem in dire need. Not all of us are equiped to handle life properly, we have a chice to be labeled lazy and depressed or use something to deal with it...
I am very shy at nature and always stressed since I was a little kid, stressed by school, stressed by financial insecurity, stressed by future insecurity...
Later I discovered alcohol
Benefits: made me more relaxed and sociable, funny, gave me a false sense of confidence, calmed me and helped me deal with most difficult situations...physically it warms you up when you are cold and I was always cold...
Negatives: As any substance it only last for a little bit and then reality hits even harder...if abused, alcohol damages the relanshionship to those close to you since you would say things that otherwise you will never say...and it costs alot of money...even moonshine...
Smoking:
Benefits: calmed me down, helped me think, gave me a gesture in society, a light companion in the the dark...
Negatives: people around you who do not tolerate smoke or the smell of tobacco...and money again...
Whether it is drugs, sugar, food or eating chalk or rocks or fluffy stuff, an addiction is smth you seek confort in because we are not adapted to life and that action compensates and conforts us...
Bless you all who are in this torment, all it took was to be conforted and guided in life, we had none of that...
My heart is with you all who struggle...
My addiction is sexual intercourse
Positive- it feels good, I guess good is an understatement. It feels incomplete and hollow without it. It helps me make really strong bonds and it is kind of a work out? ( I know I am pushing it lol)
Negative- it interferers with my life and thought processes. When I crave it, it's close to impossible trying to control it. It makes my relationships move too fast and makes people think I am "easy" . It's untimely, unpredictable and very irritating sometimes. I just wish I could have control over my drive. It really interferes a lot with my day to day life
It makes me negative, it makes me detest social contact and it makes me suicidal and it also makes me think that I will never be able to get out of it no matter what I did, so I hate it!
