How do you deal with feeling of guilt?
I'm sure most of us have faced this issue at some point, and I'd love some community feedback!
How do you deal with feelings of guilt about mistakes you made during your period of chaotic substance (particularly if things you did or decisions you made had fallout that continues to affect your life currently)?
Some questions for those who don't mind talking about your own experiences: Did you feel guilt over something and then find that just saying sorry alleviated that guilt? Or did it take any other kind of inner work and if so what? Or did just time passing help? Or did you just focusing on not repeating the mistakes and trying to be a better person in future? Did your feelings of guilt help or hurt your recovery? If it was hurting your recovery, how did you manage to let go of it and move on? Is it desirable to just try not to dwell on it and focus on the future, or does reflecting on the past often help to keep you focused on working harder to create a better you in the present?
@resourcefulPond1641 Hey Pond, lovely to hear from you! What a nice question. Well, I don't push it away; denial only makes it worst. I try to see my mistakes as learning opportunities. After all, we are humans, so we are bound to make mistakes.

Guilt to me is such a double edged sword. Guilt makes me feel weak and helpless but without guilt, I will never be able to face reality. Guilt makes it easy for me to face my own consequences. One thing I learned during my time of feeling only guilt is to be kind to myself. Don't be so harsh and become your own fuel and stop pondering who's watching.
