Is it addiction?

This is a tough question to vocalize well. But have any of you thought you had an addiction problem but under further review determined Maybe you didn't?

Here's my story. In 2020 My then wife left me. She raised some concerns about alcohol use. What happened was one night while we were together I got super drunk. We have 2 boys. They were 1 and 3 at the time. I only got so drunk because I was expecting her to be around for the entire time. She left at one point. The boys were in bed and I ended up going to sleep. When she got home she found the youngest boy was awake and crying. When we were settling custody she told the story to the judge. He ordered that when I had the children I couldn't consume alcohol. This was a clear given and never was the plan since I would be the only parent with the children. At this point in my life I would only drink one or two drinks twice a week with dinner. I would drink in excess (6 or more) once every 6 months. Well when the judge issued this ruling I started attending Alocoholics anonymous. I'm starting to think I wasn't actually an alcoholic and I did this as simply as a knee jerk reaction and to try and show up the judge. I got the ruling mid June 2020 and got sober June 22 2020. I have been sober ever since and haven't drank a drop. I did get a sponsor and worked the 12 steps (although I haven't fully worked 10 and 11 since I'm not a sponsor myself). I'm curious if others have gone through a similar realization? I'm working with a therapist to decipher these feelings and she suggested I check this site.

it dosent seems like an addiction by what you described rather just bad luck that you were caught up in such situation.

@redGlobe7819 AA can’t really tell you if you’re an addict. Anyone can have unfortunate consequences if they drink to excess, addict or not. Turns out alcohol isn’t that good for you even if you follow the max drinks per week rule - I think no more than 14/wk for men. Really, your therapist told you to come here to 7 Cups to figure out if you’re an addict?

Not to figure out if I'm an addict to see if others have been through something similar or not and see their experience.

have you shared your concerns about if you are an alcoholic with your sponsor? As you may know, the third tradition says that you only have to want to not drink in order to go to AA. I think AA has a pamplet that helps to answer the question about if you are an alcoholic.

The last thing i want to say is this. I am in recovery from another addiction. And my first sponsor once said to me "what is the point of drinking?". Its not anything good can come out of drinking....
