Hello. I'm 25 years old and I recently started to develop some kind of addiction to my cell phone and internet in general. I'm going through very difficult changes in life (I'm trying to overcome a huge trauma), and for that reason my doctors recommended me to focus only on the tasks i have to accomplish in order to heal. i stopped using all social media to take time just for myself, but now my phone is literally ruin my life. I can't stop using it or checking it every minute of my day: during lectures, during work, while i eating, while i walking etc. I check if I've received messages or email all the time. If i'm thinking about something, i immediately search it online. If i can't use or check my phone i start to be very nervous and I get anxious quickly. I always feel the need to keep it into my hand even if I don't need it, and this is causing me problems in my relationships, on work and it keep me from studying and things i should do and doing them fast. Sometimes i just stare at it without any reason and this... Is friking me out! I don't know what i should do or how to overcome this problem.

I had internet in 91. I became much like you. Then many years later I had seen everything been every where, my soul was part of the web and I stopped, you can only watch a cat in toast so many times, only watch shipa crash so many times, check your email so many times, I'm now TV free advertising free no social media.. it's not that useful, it's not that great The internet is for pôrn... And that's what everyone thinks your up to...

@LovelightSister96 It sounds like you're developing nomophobia - the fear of being without your phone or social media. Like what I say to others with similar problems, gradually decreasing your reliance on your phone slowly might help. It varies depending on you but I often find setting fixed schedules help you manage your time between life and social media better! You could also talk to a listener here at 7 Cups who might be able to help you overcome this problem. You got this, I'm rooting for you every step of the way <3

@shyMelody2057 How long you need to break free of this varies for everyone! From the numbers you just gave me, it seems like you're making some incredible progress. Keep doing what you're doing, record your hours, and analyze them at the end of every week to see if that helps. Did they have an increasing trend? Or do they not have any visible trend at all? And if so, what's your goal for next week? What is the average time you spent on your ohone per week? Questions like this might help you track your addiction more specifically and if you have concrete answers to hold onto and work towards, it might help with your anxiety too. Hppe this helps!
