The story of someone who was helped by addicts.

Greetings. I am a listener here and I really felt the need to talk about something very important. Addictions play a huge role in my life, but in a total different way. Last year, I was more than lucky to be a part of an amazing team, where I did my internship at. It's a therapeutic community for people who have done drugs and were addicted to alcohol. Now, some of you, might think "how was she even helped?". I will tell you right away.

The first day of my internship I was very anxious about everything. Would these people trust me, put their faith in me? You want to know what happened? In the community I met people that changed me. They had a will to begin, start from point zero, talk to me about anything. They didn't care I was just someone who was learning. They talked to me, shared with me all of their fears and thoughts. And they taught me a lesson. You can always find a way out. There's always a way out of your problems, either those are 30+ years of drugs and alcohol or just some minor ones. As long as you don't give up, you will make it.

So, leaving and completing my internship, I felt more blessed than ever, because these people taught me in less than 5 months what life really means. That there are always different types of families and to never give up.

I know all these sound too poetic, but as a social worker, as someone who helped these people, in the end, I was helped, too. Give and take is something inevitable. And absolutely great.
