trying to quit smoking
I’ve been smoking for a few years now. I grew up around it, and naturally I started smoking cigarettes when I was probably about 12. I’m almost 16 now. My friends are trying to get me to quit, and I’ve listened to them and i’m trying to quit but I want to smoke one. I tell myself that just one won’t hurt but just one always turns into so many more. How do I stay motivated to stop? What do I do when I’m just ready to give up all the progress i’ve made?
Mindfulness meditation for that craving/moment to pass...then asking yourself if you want it still after the moment is gone. Zero cigarettes want to smoke you. You have to want to smoke zero cigarettes and your willingness to be an ex-smoker will turn into willpower for quitting and reprogramming your mind.
It may not help you quit (I say that because the director didn’t) but you should watch “No Smoking” a movie about just that. I am struggling with the same and it scared me a bit… Well for a minute.
I am in the exact same situation...started at 12 and 16 now.
The thing that makes me want to smoke less everyday are videos and documentaries about side effects of this addiction. It just makes you feel like you are sitting in the dentist chair(if you know what I mean) giving you a sense of remorse for you body.
This is my thing and you should do what feels best for you.
Remember,it's just a bad habit and habits change with a bit of help.
