I have anxiety and tension problems and nerve damage and migraines. So life is pretty painful but not only that the high me is the real me because I have no anxiety and can enjoy life and social interaction. I need a constant distraction because life hurts

I am sorry you have such pain and anxiety. That must be exhausting. I'm curious if this something you really believe? If so, you probably wouldn't be hanging out in the addiction community. If what you say is true, you don't have an addiction, just a way of coping that isn't causing you any problems.
Unfortunately, when it comes to using addictive substances like alcohol or drugs, it ends up creating an anxiety cycle in our brain circuits and we need more and more just to feel ok.
