Maladaptive Daydreaming
I just keep slipping up. I don't know how to stop, seriously. I slipped up after a day, I just don't know what to do anymore. How can I stop myself? I meditate daily, and try to practice mindfulness. I wonder, am I doing it right? I think I do better when I have something keeping me from doing it. Like when I put a blocker on my YouTube on my computer. I usually daydream to music on my computer while on YouTube, and one day, I put a blocker on it. It worked for a bit, I went 6 days without daydreaming, which is the longest I've ever gone. But I ended up slipping up anyway.. it's really broken my confidence and I just don't know what to do anymore. How can I stop? I can't get therapy right now, and I can't take medication. What's your advice? Does anyone know how I can resist the urge to daydream? I'm just so done with this..

Be gentle with yourself and don't let slip-ups shatter your confidence. The six-day streak you had is a significant achievement, and you can build on that. Keep using technology blockers if they help, and continue your mindfulness and meditation practices. Identifying triggers and using distraction techniques can also be beneficial.
One highly effective strategy to resist the urge to daydream is Mindful Replacement. When you feel the urge to daydream, intentionally replace it with a mindful activity or hobby that captures your attention. For instance, engage in activities like drawing, reading, or a sport, where you need to be fully present in the moment. When you immerse yourself in these activities, it can be easier to redirect your focus away from daydreaming. Over time, this practice can help reduce the frequency of your daydreaming episodes and provide you with a healthier way to occupy your mind. The key is to select activities that genuinely interest you and allow you to experience a sense of engagement and fulfillment. With mindful replacement, you're not just avoiding daydreaming; you're actively replacing it with activities that enhance your well-being and bring you joy
