Ive been an alcoholic/addict for 30 years. I started doing Kratom to help get off other substances and now find myself addicted to Kratom.

@Scott786 Kratom can be helping for getting off other drugs, and it's seems you've done really well using it for that purpose. You should be proud of yourself.

Kratom itself is still mildly addictive; so if you want to stop taking it, I'd suggest you to just gradually tapper down the amount you have each day. It's not always easy psychologically, but it's physically safe to taper of it at home. And by tapering, rather than just stopping cold-turkey, you should be able to avoid almost all the pain of withdrawals, unless you have more serious psychological ones (in which case you may need therapy to help you work through it.

@resourcefulPond1641 Very good advice! Thankfully I'm able to taper off of kratom with very little withdrawal symptoms, but I keep coming back for more. It's absolutely helped me stay off of alcohol, but it's replacing one thing for another. This was suppose to go in the substance abuse thread, but I guess a little awareness about kratom can't hurt.

@Scott786 More awareness and education about a substance is always a good thing! smiley

@Scott786 I guess another possible strategy, if you don't really want to totally give up using kratom altogether, might be to just allow yourself to have it once a week. If you can stick to that then it would be more akin to recreational use instead of daily use (which is more likely what ends up being the problem since you then become physically dependent and get the negatives that come with that). If you're anything like me, trying to tell yourself you can never have it again could be more unhealthy than coming up with and sticking to a sensible schedule of how much and how often you plan use.
