Alcoholic partner lashing out constantly
How do you all stay calm during the angry lashing out? My instinct is to stand up for myself, but it only ends up in ugly arguments. I know it’s irrational to argue with a drunk person, but it‘s just so hard to sit there and take it. How do you all cope?
Is there another place you can go to get away? A friend/family member you could stay with? I know how difficult it is to get out of a situation like that, especially when you are living together and in a confined setting. For me, if I can't leave and go stay the night with someone and wait for my spouse to sober up the next day, it's best to walk away and go into another room for the night. You have to remember, when they are drunk/high/whatever, there is no rhyme or reason to them. There is no point to try and talk or argue with someone who is messed up. I know how hard it is to want to tell them off and stabd up for yourself, but it's better to have a calm discussion with them when they are sober. I am in the same situation and it is quite difficult to try and be the bigger person, but we deserve better than that.
The way I coped, perhaps not the best way, was just letting them vent what ever bulls* they had and as soon as there was a pause, I'd be gone to another room. Or deliberately show I. wasn't paying attention
