Blackmailed By My Husband

My husband is currently in residential treatment, as part of a deal to avoid prison for computer tampering. When we got together he had been clean for almost a year. Since he relapsed hes become a completely different person from the boy Ive known half my life. Still, I thought there were lines that he wouldnt cross

Today, he called me to tell me that another patient was going to tell the staff I was bringing him contraband (Im not) unless I brought a certain amount of drugs for him and left them in a box on the wall....if the staff believes him I wont be allowed to visit him the rest of the time hes there. The patient hes talking about ODd last week and my husband (a former paramedic) saved his life. Theres no way he would turn around & blackmail him like this. Thats not how it works in those situations. And he wasnt even wanting me to pay, just deliver the stuff. But the order he placed also cost the exact amount that I had given my husband to use for cigarettes/library books/laundry etc just yesterday. I know my husband made the story up & used not being able to see him as a threat to make me do what he wanted. And of course I didnt do it. But Im struggling so much with the hurt that he would cross that line. I know its the heroin talking but that doesnt make it hurt any less. Or make me any less mad that he thinks Im dumb enough to fall for his story...I wish so badly there was a way I could make him want to be clean. And I know there isnt.

@Azalia1109 Hello Azalia, and welcome to the community. Just to let you know, I moved your forum thread to the appropriate area of the forum. :)

I really appreciate you opening up to us about what's been going on between you and your husband, and I can't even begin to imagine how you've been managing. You have every right to feel hurt, and I'm sorry you had to go through such an experience. While the addiction definitely does play a part in his behavior, your emotions are totally valid. Drugs can definitely reveal a different side to a person. How have you been coping lately? If you ever need to talk to someone, the listeners are always here.

If you have any questions/concerns about the subcommunity/7Cups, let us know. Feel free to reach out whether it is to give us updates, vent about anything, etc. We have a resource thread, so feel free to check it out here if you'd like. Best wishes! :)
