How do I help someone with an addiction?
Hey everyone!
I would like to ask people in the community to give me their opinion and perspective on a very personal matter. A member of my family is battling with alcohol addiction. For almost a decade now. I believe it got even worse because a couple of years ago he started living alone which only worsened his condition. And it seems like noone can help him. He lives alone and seems to have separated himself from everyone, except the very occasional visit to his parents and sibilings. He has no relationship or family due to his addiction. I am almost certain he drinks every day. Sometimes starting as early as in the morning hours already. It is a huge burden for everyone in the family. Not him as a person. But the constant worrying about him or what might happen to him. I feel like I can not sit and do nothing about this. I want to help some way. I just don't know how. He doesn't seem to think he needs professional help. Where does one begin the recovery after so many years? Or what can the family do to help an addict. Can they be Ifof any help even? If you have any experience on this matter. Please be so kind and share it with me. Thank you.
@BellaFlora Hey Bella, I appreciate you reaching out for help/support in regards to your loved one. I'm so sorry to hear about your family member, and it is great that you are taking the initiative to help him during this difficult time. How is he coping these days?
