Staying with a partner with an alcohol problem
My fiancé was arrested for assault (towards me) while drinking this week and I feel completely drained. The jealousy/paranoia/anger while drunk has been an issue for about a year. I know this is someone who genuinely loves me but also has a real problem. My family is worried sick that we’re still together and I feel a lot of guilt over that. I also am very conflicted on whether we should continue to live together (my partner’s very strong preference) while we do couples therapy or if our families are right that it’s way too risky. I just came here looking for some support from people who are dealing with similar situations. Hope everyone healing and finding peace in whatever situations brought them here ❤️
I wish I had some advice for you but I am going through the same thing and struggling so it's not my place to suggest any solutions.. I will say that find any safe spaces you can go when things flare up, support from a distance and make sure his immediate family and friends are aware because he will most likely lie to them.. this may feel like you're crossing a boundary but if your relationship is long term, his friends and family will appreciate your honesty.. sorry I may be totally off key on this one, just saying how I feel in my situation hopefully it is of some help.. wishing you all the best of luck but font let yourself be dragged down too ❤
Hi all,
I just ended up a relationship with an alcoholic. He actually lie about his alcoholism, so I fell in love with him just to find he drinks. Men with alcoholism have always in my life and have always ruined them to the point of trauma. That is why my first question to this man was if he had any addictions like alcohol. He denied it. Men with alcoholism have a lot of issues. Their alcohol is always going to be first, than you. One reason is because they think they can disguise any issues they might have with alcohol. Or at least this is going to be their excuse. You are going to hear things like, it makes me better, it makes me sharper, it makes more social, or less shy, it makes me love you more, etc. Your fiancée should be willing to go to rehab so he can get detox and then deal with his real issues with proper therapy and/or medication. Otherwise, you will have to stay in a relationship where you going to have to accept that alcohol is more important than you are. I hope this helps.
Beat of Luck!
