Support not enable

How do I show support for an adult child moving back in, but help hold them accountable. It’s not a parenting issue now that they are an adult themselves. Kind of hard to know what to do.

Determine ahead of time what the limits are. Then set those limits early, and reinforce them often, and do not back down if/when tested. Limits might be scoffed at, or protested, but believe me, they work.

Remember the wise words of my elders: "The word saint and the word street are both abbreviated St. If you are too much a Saint, people will mistake you for a Street and walk all over you."

Do not let any emotions or situations "fester." With respect to your feelings, spit it out before it eats you alive.

Get difficult conversations over with sooner rather than later.

Best of luck :)

Thank you for the input. I don’t want to always seem questioning but if I know something is up I have a hard time confronting them about it.

I hope to have a good conversation this weekend to layout my expectations.
