What could I do to help my mother cope with her alcoholism?
Okay, so, for the past year or so my mom has been drinking more heavily, and it's escalated to where she is drunk several nights of the week and sometimes even has to call off of work because she is too hungover. When sober, my mom is an amazing, kind lady, and a great mother. When drunk, however, it feels like I'm missing a parent. She either just lays in bed or wanders throughout the house, seemingly confused or lost. It scares me. My dad doesn't do much to stop it other than cut her off when she's drank too much or try to hide her alcohol. I don't want my mom to be like this. She is my best friend. Today is my brother's birthday and it's the second year in a row that she's been drunk in bed. I love my mother so much but she needs help. How do I talk to her about this? Is there any way I could help? Thanks <3
Have you or your family members tried to bring up to topic that maybe she is drinking more often lately? That is the first step. If you have an she says she does not have a problem with alcohol that can be another challenge. I work for a help line that helps addicts and their family members find treatment. It sounds like the first step is to bring up the topic and see how that goes.
