Hi, I desperately need help/guidance in overcoming PMO (Porn, Masturbation, Orgasm).
Currently, I think I am at my lowest point yet again. Porn, sex, masturbation, the sensation of orgasm haunts me at my lowest and highest points. The longest I've abstained was 14 days and eventually I gave in. That was three months ago and now I'm back at the same vicious cycle of, high, lows, and PMO. It's awful, if I keep this going for another year it'd be a decade of PMO. I have grown to resent myself because of it and it has warped my percpetion of reality to a degree of lunacy. I have not told anyone about this since I am ashamed of it. This is my first time being open and I'd appreciate any support or advice. I really need help.
Hi read you summary here. I really don’t know much about it, but the only person that can get yourself from your lowest point is God himself. Pray 🙏🏼 about your situation and don’t stop praying. Good hears you already. I know he may not answer right then, but his watching your every move to see if you are still making the right choices. Take one day at a time. Keep your mind busy on positive solutions and keep a level head 🙌🏽 Read the Bible and also, therapist sessions may help try and don’t be ashamed of it. There’s people that actually want to help.
as a spiritual person who doesn't mainly celebrate christianity this message was beautiful. <<33 thank you for your kind words
Hi there, sorry to hear about, about your problem. If you would like to talk, please get in touch for a chat. Pm me
It may help to understand the three parts to your problem by treating them as separate issues first.
The masturbating, followed by the orgasm are natural and pleasurable processes.
The priority is your addiction to pornography.
First. Separate the porn from the masturbation and orgasm.
The internet has made porn more accessable, which covers anything from kissing to the most extreme of sexual behaviour. It can be accessed for little or no cost and at the touch of a button.
It's a distraction in today's digital world and very addictive.
Like any addiction. It's usually free (or very affordable) to start off with. However. As the addiction takes hold, it becomes more expensive due to the desire for more explicit/interactive content.
Pornography is like any 'vice' activity. Nothing wrong with it in moderation. However. It gets to a point where it takes over your life.
The Covid lockdowns have also encouraged the use of porn.
It's about having the will-power to stop viewing the porn - permanently.
However much help you seek, it's a problem that is seriously going to require your full attention.
Cancel all subscriptions immediately so as to reduce exposure to the deeper, more interactive porn content.
If your social media accounts revolve around pornography, then cancel your accounts. The last thing you need is someone suggesting you check out a certain site or being bombarded with porn related adverts/messages.
You abstained for two weeks, which shows you have the will-power to do this. However. You're trying to fight all three (PMO) activities at once.
Just focus on the porn addiction.
Put the phone and computer to one side each day and go for a long walk, or a run. Activities to stimulate the body and mind (other than porn) will help to increase your ability to overcome this.
The most essential element of tackling this problem is your own will-power. Porn is just too easily accessable.
On the subject of masturbating and orgasms, there's no reason why you cannot continue as these are natural activities.
If anything, regular masturbation may help suppress the desire to view porn.
Masturbation can be achieved without the pornography and using your imagination.
Counselling/therapy will help you to explore deeper into the root causes of your addiction and gain a further understanding. Hopefully. By opening up to seeking help, you may find that other forms of help and advice will be available to you through counselling.
As with any addiction, some self-help is always worth considering. Do some research and see if there are any groups, advice lines, information in health centres or libraries and so on. There are always reading materials or books available to help with addictions.
Understandably. Covid restrictions have meant that many of us have spent a lot of time at home, on our own. This in turn encourages the use of online pornography, which can then become addictive and more extreme.
To help combat your porn addiction, a diversity of interests/hobbies (which may in turn result in a wider social experience) will help take your mind off porn.
Admittedly - subject to how physically able you are - get out of the house. Find other activities and social experiences.
Your computer and other devices can be used for richer learning experiences rather than just viewing porn.
Pornography, video games, social media and gambling are a pleasurable experience for many people - but for some, they become too much of a distraction.
Even businesses/organisations have this problem with employees.
If you feel that you seriously cannot control your desire to view porn - then re-consider your use of technology.
Try a restrictive approach to make porn viewing difficult.
Only use a computer which has the capability for simple internet browsing and switch to a simple, text only style phone. Powerful technology is needed to appreciate fully what the porn sites have to offer.
Cancel the internet altogether at home and use the library or other community/publicly available internet centre instead. You're not allowed to watch porn in those places. The computers may be either be monitored or restricted to prevent sexually explicit content.
Of course. Just like anyone else, you may want a powerful computer/phone in order to watch TV, movies or play games.
This means the temptation to view porn is staring right at you.
Use the TV to view only the 'terrestrial' channels. Satellite or subscription TV is more likely to have 'adult' channels containing sexually explicit content. Connecting the TV to the internet will also increase the risk of viewing porn.
If you play video games, then use a games console that is dedicated for that purpose.
Take each day at a time. Try the first day without viewing porn. Then the second day. The third and so on. If you experience a relapse, stop the porn viewing and continue with your no-porn rule.
Rather like slimming or giving up alcohol, you need to re-focus after a relapse.
The problem with porn addiction is the ease of availability. However. If you really want to end this cycle, it's time to stop now.
Hello Stransky,
I hear what you are saying, and understand more than you might think! For now, I will say, do not hate yourself. Self hatred only feeds into our addictions. I know we may disapprove with our behaviors, and we say things like “I hate myself for doing this, I can’t believe I did this again, when will I stop doing this, I must be some wicked person for giving into this again!” In saying these things, I understand we hate the behavior, however, the inner critic gets the best of us and we start hating ourselves. Please believe me, that only sets you up for your next failure. The reason being is that you shame yourself. While we might feel guilt for doing something that does not agree with our moral fiber, shame is something completely different. While guilt says you did something wrong, shame says you are something wrong.
Remember, you have value, you count, and you make a difference. Don’t let certain choices define your value as a human being. So you got stuck, get back up and determine this is not who I am! Get back in the fight and pursue those goals that are important to you. You can fight, and you can win by God’s grace! The goal is to bring those things into the open and talk to trusted individuals who can help you.
the strength of shame is isolation, and you’ve already taken the first step to being open about your struggle. To that I would say, stay connected, see a counselor, but never give up and never give in by allowing this struggle to define you!
hope this helps
@Adam253
But I cant change my mind , I am isloated from the outer world , and already feel ashamed and disgusting myself , feel tinny and cheap .. nothing helped me , I am struggling and I think no one would see any beautiful thing in me or love me
Hello Chihiro9,
First of all, do not listen to the lies of discouragement. That’s what they are, nothing but lies! You are very valuable, you have great worth and a great gift to those around! That is the truth!!!!
Yes, you have a struggle that you must and can overcome by the grace of God. Trust me, I know how hard that can be. But your trouble speaks to so much more than just the behavior you want to overcome. Often times these behaviors exist as a part of a longing that stems from our formative years where we may have experienced abuse, trauma, and or neglect. These behaviors, as difficult as they are to understand, are sometimes our ways of soothing ourselves during times of great stress, boredom, and/or great pain. The problem is that they satisfy a longing for the moment, however, once we enter into that behavior, we then are overcome by feelings of shame which basically heightens our sense of helplessness and worthlessness that we then again reach for our poor choices again to self sooth. This then leads us to repeat the pattern that keeps us trapped.
For now, understand that you have greater value than your poor choices and behavior. You can learn to overcome these things and be more productive with your life. The first step is having hope and belief that you will come through this and learn from it! And your hope will be called upon to give hope to someone else who is walking through what you are walking through right now. Right now, believe also that I have hope in you too!
@Stransky i can relate
