My life
Hey everyone, newbie here. I've been addicted to porn (and masturbation) since i was 14. To sum it all up, It has really messed me up. Yesterday i got off 3 times in a row and today 2 times. It wasn't this frequent before but i kinda feel an emptiness inside me. After those fapping sessions i have this pain in my head and my back and today after fapping my vision kinda went foggy (that was new) Ultimately, i think I'm losing my mind and I really wanna quit this addiction. I feel helpless.
I have an idea. Perhaps you could try this. Let's say tomorrow you feel the need for 3 times masturbation and porn. Try to pick just one moment (so not all three times) to not do and watch it and let yourself be free a few hours later. The moment you choose to not fill the void with porn and masturbation, is where you can distract yourself. Thhere is a chanche you are going to feel extremely restless or empty. (or not) but feel the sharpness and do nothing with it. Don't fill the void with something else. Remind yourself it's only that moment you decide not to go through with it. And then let it be.... Later on, when you feel the need and this moment has gone, DON'T feel guilty because you have actually given it a shot. So take it step by step. Just like with chocolate, leave one bite and flush it through the toilet., but then with masturbation and porn. But allow yourself another moment of relief. Take it slow, and don't push yourself endlessly. However, keep picking out certain moments where you decide, Okay, not now. I will feel what comes next, and follow through with it. Then reward yourself with something that's healthy for you. You can do this. You can!
I don't know if you've found any resources yet, but I'll give you a quick breakdown from 5 years of recovery.
Watching porn and masturbating to it creates a cycle of dopamine addiction in your brain. When you do it frequently, you'll find yourself craving it more often, and soon you'll find yourself looking at things you would normally not find exciting or desirable. This is because the same things result in less dopamine release in your brain each time, as your brain craves novelty.
There are a lot of resources available for free online. Nonreligious ones include Noah B. Church's website, the NoFap community on Reddit, the Love People Use Things podcast (run by a Catholic AND an atheist), and the website Your Brain on Porn, to name a few. That last one will help you understand what's going on inside you with valid, proven scientific data, and is a great place to start.
A lot of religious resources are available as well, most of them for free. Even if you're not religious, the philosophical foundations can be really helpful. Podcaster Matt Fradd wrote The Porn Myth, which is a good book, and runs Pints With Aquinas, a podcast that has some very good anti-porn episodes in its archive. Protestant churches like the Conquer Series, which is a high-quality production video series with workbooks for a small group of men to journey through recovery together. Again, each may be a better fit for you depending on your views, but all of them have at least some value.
If there's a way we can message, let me know and I can point you toward other resources as I remember them. I'm happy to help you in this struggle.
