Partner addicted to pornography

Hi I have a partner who has been addicted to pornography for many years. He lied to me when we first started dating and said he would stop the porn for me. It turned out he would keep doing it for the whole 5 years we've been together and would gaslight and abuse me very often. I say all this to say that the last 2 months he said he hasn't done it at all and that he's doing much better. He says God is helping him but I'm unsure if he's still lying. He will lie to no end to save himself and from being found out. I'm just really upset and wondering if someone can really stop cold turkey from looking at porn when they have a very aggressive addiction to it for many years. Please comment and help me know if he's lying or being honest. It's so hard to tell. Thank you so much for reading.
