Hi! I'm Samuel. I'm 19. Recently I realized that a lot of my life I've been doing the wrong thing and now I'm trying to get closer to God. I want to quit porn and masturbating so I can be a better person. It is so hard for me and I feel that no one really understands the painful struggle and desire to quit once you are in this deep.

Any help is much appreciated -Samuel

I have been in recovery for this for a while, everytime a guy gives me some type of validation it triggers my addiction and I end up hating myself

@philosophicalShip9444 Are you pertaining to me? Well we are all in the same boat here friend! I apologize for triggering your addiction. I do not think I validated anything besides his desire to quit from PMO but I understand where you're coming from. Similar posts like mine, have always motivated me to keep my streak going and so I thought it would have the same effect on Samuel here but to each their own right? Once again I apologize. Good luck on your recovery. God is with us throughout this journey.

@philosophicalShip9444 Thank you for telling me about it though! I'll keep in mind next time that it may trigger some people. Stay safe!

Humans create a habit and develop interest, (good or bad) out of boredom. Any excess and overactivity, when people lose control of that habit and becomes detrimental to oneself that when it's a bad addiction. It's true habits are hardest thing you break so instead of avoiding the urge overall, find some other activities that will keep you preoccupied, do something useful and productive. Such as sports and exercise, outdoor activities are the best - as simple as walking outside, trail/hike if you live nearby nature trailpark or mountains the better. Or walk to malls window shopping, the point is just go outside. Create a routine and stick to it, 90-day rule, it takes 90 days to build a new habit until it becomes your lifestyle.
And who knows, you may find a girlfriend that will satisfy your needs so you don't have to self-pleasure.

Hello Samuel. It's great to hear that you want to make positive changes in your life and you are seeking to grow closer to God. Lust is really a difficult temptation to overcome because it caters to your senses and can consume you. It's also a way to fill an emptiness in the heart or cover up a deep pain (I know from my own experiences). I personally know men who have struggled with porn/masturbation. I suggest you commit to seeking God and studying his word and also join a support group for men to be able to talk about your struggles, fellowship together, and receive counseling. It's important to be able to have a safe environment to express your deepest hurts. Also, there's no time limit for overcoming addictions, allow yourself time to heal, and when you fail forgive yourself. Also, just continue to seek God and use him as your pillar of strength for this area of your life that you want to overcome. Don't be ashamed of confessing that you need help. You have such a strength (already) to desire to change at 19. It's going to be worth it! @PleaseCreateaScreenName

@PleaseCreateaScreenName I am so glad I came across this . First of all well done . You might be thinking what for , but well done for being present enough and honest enough with yourself to see there is a problem here and something you need to work on . I have been addicted to masturbation and porn from a very younger age I'm now 27 years of age and I still have my bad days like today in fact . So I thank you for having the courage to make this post . Getting closer to god is a good thing at any point in your life . There are some apps that Realy help with this if you are not going to church due to covid . Soul time app this is a Christian and meditation app daily bible readings and it's free for the first few weeks it's great . Also have you ever heard of fortify and fight the new drug these apps and organisations will make you realise you are not in this fight alone and you can change for the better . Last but not least coming from someone that's 8 years older than you . Don't wait to work on this . Don't look back 10 years later and say man all that time I wasted on porn on masturbation because time is precious life is a gift and if we all work on what we love we can spend this gift doing what we love with the people we love enriching each other's lives . God bless to you , you don't need good luck because you,be got this
