ADD with others

Sometimes my ADD affects others like for example when I get excited about a topic I start to take louder. My cousin has started bringing this up and tell me to be quiet or shut up. He even does it in front of other people to embarrass me. The worst thing is he as more hyperactive ADHD than me so he sounds super hypocritical to me. I just get really quiet and disappointed when he does that and it basically ruins my whole day. Can any one relate?

I cannot say that I personally relate, but that is such a d*ck move by your cousin. You should be allowed to get excited about things. You express your excitement by getting louder. Instead of getting excited with you, your cousin knocks you down. My advice is to give yourself the permission to continue getting excited and being loud and taking up space. If your cousin tells you to shut up, just get louder and more enthusiatic. If that isn't your style, you can try to include him in your excitement- try to reel him in to what you are excited about. If that isn't what you want to do, you can just flat out face him the next time he tells you to shut up and/or makes fun of you, and ask him why it offends him when you have fun. Like, what is his actual problem? If you don't want to turn the tables and instead you simply want to assert yourself, just explain to him that your excitement has nothing to do with him. He can have his opinions, but you are going to change yourself for him any time soon. I think this is going to have to be about you gaining a thicker skin (easier said than done!!). You've got to validate yourself and let yourself keep shining despite him trying to rain on your parade. Is there any way of avoiding him?
