ADHD and sudden energy crashes – is this a thing?
I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, and one thing I really struggle with is sudden energy crashes. I can be fine one moment, then completely drained the next – not normal tiredness, more like my brain just shuts down. Simple tasks feel overwhelming and pushing through usually makes it worse.
I’m still trying to understand what actually helps with this and whether other women experience it in a similar way. Would love to hear different perspectives or experiences.
@amelliasmith
I'm sorry you are struggling , genuinely.
I personally don't have ADHD, but I wanted you to know, you were heard 💚
And hopefully others who have experienced similar will be able to share with you 💚🤗

@amelliasmith i do not have a diagnosis but i have very similar experiences. sometimes i need a change of scenery to do this or i body-double with friends so that they hold me accountable. but honestly it does not change the fact that it feels like there's a giant boulder on top of me when i think about getting simple tasks done. you are definitely not alone in feeling this way.
@amelliasmith It's possible you're getting overstimulated. Do you work in a busy environment, a very social place, or with customers? I'm still learning what to do with this kind of stuff, but in theory breathing techniques are supposed to help when you're feeling super activated (stimulated by your environment).
Another possibility is the way you eat. I have a tendency to forget to eat meals, or to power through them instead. I'm better (but not perfect) at not doing it anymore, but if this sounds like you, maybe you should try building a routine around food or setting up alarms to remind you. Meal, snack, meal, snack, meal, snack is usually the recommended routine. (I usually do Meal, snack, meal, meal, snack)
If you're someone who masks your symptoms, sometimes you'll just get drained from pretending to be neurotypical. You might want to try finding objects to fidget with to release energy throughout the day.
