ADHD medication script delays concerns

Hi all,

I started ADHD medication early last year, and it was introduced gradually. I was prescribed a low dose of Vyvanse in the early morning, followed by dexamphetamine twice morning and late noon to curb the crash. This combination has worked really well for me over the past few months.

However, over the Christmas/holiday period my script was due for renewal. Unfortunately, my GP (who was the new prescriber) was away, and when I saw them again I was told I’d need to go back to my original psychiatrist due to authority permit issues. I’ve emailed and phoned my psychiatrist’s clinic multiple times, but admin staff have only said they’ll pass on my message and get back to me — which hasn’t happened yet.

It’s now been almost three weeks since I had to stop dexamphetamine abruptly. In the first couple of weeks, I experienced noticeable mood dips, fatigue, irritability, fluctuating anxiety, and some sleep disruption. I’m still taking my morning Vyvanse, which does provide support early morning, but I honestly feel like I’m running on half a tank most days now.

Is it normal to feel this way given the sudden change in medication? And with my next psychiatrist appointment still a while away, do I just have to ride this out until then? I hope this isn't a common occurrence for us neurodivergent humans.
