Can't sleep

Meds don't work, I could take 50gs of melatonin and my brain would still keep me awake. It's my worst enemie, my brain. Like someone that's always in the corner of your room, like constant sleep paralysis and you can't ever wake up. And it's no excuse, do I dare try to explain to anyone that my brain is sick and it keeps me awake, or just let then assume I'm irresponsible as they do. "Girls don't have ADD" "what do you mean you can't fall asleep, that's stupid" "just take a sleeping pill" my head feels like a million tiny stones are constantly rolling around inside it. Please for God's sake someone tell me im not alone.

@AliPlaysGuitar

You are most definitely not alone!!! The statement that "girls can't have ADD" is completely stigma and it is completely possible for us to struggle with it. Any disorder of the brain can affect anyone, no matter what age or gender. And I'm sorry that you've been invalidated in this way. Sleep can be a major way that a lot of people are affected by ADD or ADHD. And any medications aren't going to help everyone. I struggle with ADHD and so I know that sleep is a big issue and it's an ongoing struggle, especially the random bursts of motivation which make it even harder to sleep at night. I've learned that sometimes taking time to relax and separating myself from others for a bit and taking time to express what is in my head, usually I journal, can help to get some of those thoughts out of my head and make it a little easier to get some sleep. I'm not sure if that would work for everyone, but sometimes just looking at different options maybe with a listener or searching google for tips that others have shared too. Welcome to the community!!!

@AliPlaysGuitar Im honestly having the hardest time right now with this. I just spoke with a neuropsychologist the other day and was diagnosed. They started me on 36mg Concerta and it is doing absolutely nothing for me. The other thing is my husband is totally against me receiving any pharmaceutical treatment for it, but Im starting classes again soon and just have no other option. He doesnt know Im taking any medication right now and I dont know how to tell him. But he comes back from out of state training soon and my follow up appointment is the day after he gets home, any advice would help on how to talk to him about this. Thank you 💗

@affableNectarine915 Your husband should educate himself on ADHD and medication. It's extremely effective! I hope he comes to respect your choice as you do what's needed for you to be healthy.

@AliPlaysGuitar Finally I meet someone for whom the meds do not work. I thought I was a freak...melatonin has no effect on me, lydocaine ir whatever they call ot for local anesthetic never works, I had at least 5 programs if different medication coctails for my conditions and none of them worked for me after following them in mid and long term...like my body blocks them for some reason unknown, cannot absob them or simply do not know the resons and none of the doctors were keen to investigate further...
