Do These Patterns Sound Like ADHD to You?

Hi everyone, I’m new here and I’m trying to understand myself better. I’m not diagnosed with ADHD, but I’ve been questioning whether I might have it because of some ongoing patterns in my life.

I struggle a lot with focus and consistency. I tend to procrastinate until there’s pressure, and then suddenly I can perform really well. Without urgency, even simple tasks feel overwhelming or mentally exhausting. I make detailed plans, get excited about goals, and then lose momentum quickly. My motivation fluctuates a lot, and it makes me feel frustrated because I know I’m capable.

I also experience what feels like hyperfocus. When I’m interested in something, I can spend hours on it and lose track of time. But maintaining long-term consistency is very hard for me.

Another thing I’ve noticed is relationship fixation. When I like someone, my mind constantly goes back to them. I replay conversations, wait for messages, overanalyze small details, and my mood can depend a lot on their responses. It feels like my brain “locks onto” them, and I struggle to redirect my attention to other things.

I’ve had similar patterns since school studying last minute, depending on pressure to function, feeling like I understand things but lacking structure.

I’m not trying to self-diagnose. I just want to understand whether these experiences resonate with ADHD (especially inattentive type), anxiety, attachment issues, or something else.

Has anyone here experienced similar patterns before getting diagnosed? I would really appreciate hearing your perspective.

I have experienced most of what you mentioned, and I have inattentive-type ADHD Hyperfocus, inconsistency, procrastinating until there's pressure, difficulty self-motivating.

What do you think the next step is for you?

Sounds like ADHD to me. A lot of what you say is very very relatable.

Do you have trouble paying attention when someone’s directly talking to you? Your mind just wanders mid conversation?

Do you find your thoughts “branching out”? Like: this reminds me of X, reminds me of Y, reminds me of Z. And this can happen any time — when you’re reading, watching a video, or just driving.
