Depending on where you are from psychologist will ask you questions about what you were like as a child in terms and as an adult to determine this. 

You can look up the diagnosis criteria of ADHD from your country governing body - UK (NHS, BACP, BPS, ICD), USA (APA - American Psychology Society, DSM IV).
