Making change / ADHD

Hey all, so I'm pretty sure I've got ADHD, 3 other family members have it and I hit most of the marks on the diagnostic used where I live, but I don't have access to a psych who can actually diagnose me.

I'm generally a quite an unhappy person and I've got really bad anxiety, I also recognize some kind of change has to be made, but without professional help I've basically had no luck over the last 5 or so years.

I pretty well can't do anything, no matter what change I try to make I just get distracted or forget, or sometimes just intentionally avoid to do something more interesting. I've tried everything from writing on my hands to settings constant reminders, leaving notes for myself, trying to group tasks together, trying to get others to help me be accountable.

Everything I've tried has ended me up back where I started and all the while my anxiety has gotten a fair bit worse. I'm really scratching my head here wondering what I can do to make meaningful change.

How do you guys do it?

@Dormo

Hello Dormo,

We hear you and we acknowledge you. You are not alone. Thank you for sharing.

It is a struggle and not something that will change overnight. It is a constant effort. We work it every day and some days are better than others.

Just remember, you’re not alone and we are here for you.

The notes, constant reminders, grouping tasks, and holding yourself accountable are absolutely great and positive things. Keep them going.
Have you tried making it routines?

Routines for me provide comfort and stability while also completing tasks that are needed.
IE: Sunday – Cut vegetables (Snacks & salads)
Monday – Clean master bathroom, Guest bathroom.
Tuesday - Cut grass

Adjust as you need but you get the idea.

@Dormo I myself have the same problems as you have. Quite a long time. Thinking about it, I think there is no magic trick that would make the problems disapear. I always believed and hoped for that. And the other thing, as I continued avoiding confronting my problems, they got worse. I think I am continuing doing the things you do, postponing having courage and confronting the problems I have, hoping they would magically disapear.
