Supporting a partner with ADHD

Hi everyone!

My current partner has ADHD. It's a relatively new relationship and I have no experience with ADHD. But I want to be as supportive and accommodating as I can. He is open to talking about it and answering my questions, so that is something we're doing. But I wanted to ask if anyone here has ADHD and what are some of the things that are helpful/unhelpful when you're dealing with a flare-up of symptoms? What are the things your loved ones can do to support you? What have you found are the most important things for those around you to know? etc

I'd appreciate any experiences or advice you can offer. I think it would help me ask my partner better questions that maybe would not occur to me to ask otherwise or things that might not occur to him to tell me about.

Thank you in advance. :)

hi raven! Thank you so much for reaching out. I understand your bf has been dealing with his adhd and you would like to know more about it to help support him and know what signs to look for, which is great! I can give you my own expeirence but i cannot give advice due to listeners are not aloud to give advice, but i will be more than happy to try to relate, for me ADHD is a struggle when i am working, ordoing a task as i get distracted very easily, as far as for myself if i am into the project or a good tv show i have found that i am hyper tuned into things, one thing that has been helpful to me is when i am in the middle of a task lets say for an example folding laundry, it helps that the other person doesnt interupt me so i dont get caught off gaurd as it may be impossible to get back oj track lol, also ADHD alot of people have called me “lazy” as I procrastinate sometimes or \ and have low motivation anyways i hope that helped somewhat for you:) the hyperactivity part of it was more when i was a child and now its just spurts of energy every once in awhile

i also am providing you a guide to ADHD through 7 cups as it may help you more to reflect on symptoms and how to help him cope better:) awesome information in this guide
