What is a good method to use to help with completing multiple big tasks in a short period of time? I agreed to do too many things and now I am in analysis paralysis. It is tough and shocking to find a way to complete all my tasks. Help!

The tasks I have to do now are:

  • BYU Nursing weekly assignments

  • U of People Health science assignments

  • Security Guard and Private investigator license course and exam (December 28)

  • ARCT music theory and ARCT piano exam

  • LLQP license for ethics (due Dec 31)

  • G1 Drivers license exam

  • Job: piano teacher- in person, online

  • Job: PSW homes casual, facility full time.

@emmiepiano

There's a couple of tools that might help.

"Do the next right thing". This suggests just doing the thing that feels most right or most in front of us. This can help stop the analysis paralysis and gets something done, which is always better than nothing.

"Acceptance". Accepting that you can't do everything and you have to say no to something might take the pressure off.

"4 quadrant priority matrix". Dividing your tasks into the 4 quadrants might help you see which are truely important.

8D problem solving process.

Learn about perfection anxiety. Can you say "no" to people? If not, why not? Can you allow yourself to fail? If not, why not? Can you let someone down? If not, why not? These are all things everyone has to do sometimes. If you believe you shouldn't, maybe you need to check your expectations?

Learn about boundaries and self care. Do you know your boundaries? Do you respect them? No one will respect your boundaries if you don't first.

None of these latter likely help the immediate problem. But you have recognised that there is a problem, and it might be worth thinking long term to prevent a recurrence.

@emmiepiano One thing I found helpful as I help my little one is setting a timer for each task towards getting it done and taking short breaks in between. Move around, get a drink of water, sit somewhere comfortable and try to ease my mind for a few.. I try different things. I have so many racing thoughts but I am learning to just do what I can and try my best. It seems like you have a lot on your plate but you seem very determined and I admire you for even trying to do all that. You can do this!

@emmiepianoYou have a lot on your plate, so breaking things down into smaller steps is key. Try making a prioritized list by deadline and how much time each task will take. Then, set specific, focused blocks of time for each task, using a timer to keep yourself on track. It’s okay to start with the smallest or easiest task to build momentum. Also, schedule short breaks to avoid burnout. Don’t hesitate to ask for support when you need it, and remember, progress is better than perfection. If you want, I can help you create a detailed plan to manage everything step by step.
