Letters to the teens - Part 5

💌 Anonymous - Listener
Dear Teens,

First I would like to say thank you. Thank you for all you have persevered through in the past few years. Every generation gets challenges thrown their way at all ages. Your set of circumstances with politics and the pandemic has given you a unique set of challenges, that has required you to develop coping skills dissimilar to other generations.

When I was your age, I felt so much pressure to become something, and to get everything figured out. If I could go back in time, I would tell my teenage self these things:

1.) Breath. Just breath. You'll be okay.
2.) What matters most, is how you live in the present day, and the choices that you make that day. Ultimately ,those are what will create your future. If you can learn to live in the present moment, you might be a bit more satisfied with life.
3.) The more comfortable you get with the unknown, the better off you'll be .
4.) Treat yourself like you want to be your best friend. Be kind to yourself. Learn to enjoy yourself and the time you have with yourself. If you are good to yourself, you'll have more to share with others.
5.) Be good to your body and brain. It's what you have to live in 24/7.
6.) Life is full of the unexpected. Treat those you love with care and respect if you want them to stick around. Remember they are human too, yes including your parents. This means, they are trying to figure life out just like you, but with more bills and responsibilities, which equates to more stress. If you work with them, you might be able to make some decent memories, and you'll have a better team for future challenges.
7.)Failure is okay, it's how you learn.
8.) Remember to play. :D Figure out what works for you and play:D.

Overall, thank you for all that you do as teenagers. Thank you for giving your parents strength and courage to persevere through life's challenge. Thank you for looking after the younger ones. Thank you for doing your homework, and taking care of each other. Thank you for hanging in there . I appreciate you.

-Just another thirty year old.

The transition from teenage to adulthood can seem a lot. But it's just another year of growth, learning, and loving. See it as that, and do your best to tackle what comes your way. You got this. 🌷

Hi, my name is Riley. Becoming an adult and going through your teen years can be scary, confusing and life changing situations may happen. You might still be figuring out who you are at this time. We don't have it all figured out as you may think as adults. I still need my mom even though i am an adult! Just remember, no matter who you are, changes in your body, trying to figure out who you are, what your sexuality is, or what you may be going through you are VALID and i don't think enough children and teens hear this enough because i didn't hear it enough growing up. I grew up having no family support, stuck alone in scary situations, i've been homeless before, abused and bullied throughout school and my childhood and i'm here to tell you, i made it through and i'm still here. There is help out there, You just have to find the right people. There is always someone out there willing to help you and understand you. Stay strong teens! it gets better. You can get through anything and come out on top even better. You can do anything you put your mind to!

It seems I am one of the older listeners here, being in my late 60s. These are what I would describe as leading to good living: Seeking information: Studingy way beyond school; keep learning something, even on your own. Studying people as well and observing them so you understand rather than judge them. Not judging or adopting other's judgements at face value. Being kind always, even proactively kind. Communicating clearly and thoughtfully and taking the time to think about what you want to say, so the right words come to you. In romantic and work partnerships, loyalty to your mates and devotion to your line of work will keep you at peace with yourself.

Hello! Please know that things will get better in time. We are all growing and changing, recognize that whatever you are going through will eventually change. You can change the way deal with your challenges by making small improvements in your day! Get up, make your bed, get some breakfast, get some exercise every day. Small things can make a difference over time. When you don't feel like smiling, try to anyway and maybe smile at a stranger if they make eye contact. Be nice to yourself and remind yourself that you are a work in progress, we all are! Keep moving forward in your life and know that you are not alone!
