Will this end?
I have suffered with anxiety and attacks since 2013 with the main trigger being trapped or that I couldn’t get home if I wanted to. After having kids, this has amplified extremely and it has become debilitating to the point where I avoid going places. I recently fly out of state away from my kids and the morning I woke up in a new place I have full blown panic attacks for the entire 4 days and am still in the “hangover” phase where I have lingering anxiety (it has been nearly 8 weeks). I am on anti anxiety medication but I still have this feeling of unease all the time and the racing thoughts are exhausting.
I am trying to be the best I can for my kids and my husband but he also doesn’t suffer from anxiety so he doesn’t understand that it can be a struggle for me to even go to the grocery store or drive to a restaurant.
I just really hope this level of anxiety it temporary and this isn’t what my future looks like.
Hi just curious if they have tried adjusting your meds. I know it’s not all about the meds but it might help.
I did just increase my dosage at the start of last week to try to take down the uneasy feelings
is the increase helping at all? What about talking to a therapist? I haven’t talked to one in about 7 years but I have an appointment on Jan 2. I know it can get unbearable, believe me but you will get through it. You think you always think this way but you won’t. It does take time which sucks because we want a quick fix. For some reason I try and fight taking an extra clonazapam when I’m really anxious but when I do it helps take the edge off. I’m a 50 year old teacher on Christmas Break who usually would be very productive around the house, golfing or something but just don’t have the drive right now. I know it will come back I guess we just have to weather the storm. You can chat with me anytime.
Thank you for your words. It’s always good to hear that you aren’t alone. I actually do see a therapist and have started EMDR. I also fight taking any as needed medications even though I have a prescription for it. I think maybe it feels like a failure because I couldn’t handle it by myself and needed medication.
You are definitely not alone. Just to give you a quick story about me. I was an athlete growing up and then in college I fizzled out. No big deal. When I hit about 25 I had this panic attack right before I was going to drink with my friends. It through me for a loop. I used to think mind over matter and all that stuff until it happened to me. I left college and would commute back and forth just to finish up the semester. (Yes I was still in college at 25 😃)I was a wreck but made it through it. This was circa 96 and I guess I was a little ashamed when they put me on anti depressants and kept it from my friends for awhile. Fast forward now I talk about it openly with my friends and even some teachers at work. One who I played sports against in high school and come to find out he and his wife both take medication. Just the other day I was asking his wife how much clonazapam she takes and how it helps her. Sorry for rambling, I guess the point for me is, even though I try not to take to much is, it’s there to help us and if it comes a time to ween off the anxiety meds fine but when we need it we need it. And this is coming from somebody who thought back in the day was as tough as nails. So don’t be ashamed if you don’t want to do it without medication. 😊
Thank you! Very similar story as mine. Out of no where in 2013 I had a panic attack at a restaurant getting drinks with friends and I felt trapped all of a sudden and like I couldn’t get home if I wanted to. I still get that panic feeling every now and then and when I do have a panic attack at that level I usually have a “hangover” period where I need medication to bring my baseline anxiety down. I am hopeful that in a few months I will be able to ween off the medication as my husband and I want another baby and I don’t want to be taking anything during that could pass through to the baby. Little by little I try to be positive everyday and really hope the EMDR helps reprocess some of the anxiety and not have the same triggers or reactions when I am triggered.
thanks so much for answering my post. Truly appreciate chatting with you
