Help! I've got a presentation coming up
I am a college student and I struggle with social anxiety. There's a presentation coming up and I am afraid that I might ruin it. I don't understand why I am so anxious these days that even the smallest things stress me . It's frustrating because in school I actually used to enjoy such activities and was really good. It feels like I have lost my spark and it's very difficult for me to believe in myself. I don't know what to do about it.

As someone who only likes going to class just to tune in lectures and head out to study at home, I also really didn't like presentations and discussions bits during the school. However one thing I did find that helped was practicing whether it be in front of a mirror or some friends. Sometimes some professors let me practice in front of them too! We all have conversations with our friends and close ones, it's just a matter of expanding that skill to now classmates and strangers. Best of luck regardless! You got this.
@sunnyCranberry6945 It's understandable to feel anxious about presentations, especially if you struggle with social anxiety. To manage your anxiety, try to practice your presentation in advance and focus on your strengths and accomplishments. You may also want to try deep breathing exercises, visualization techniques, or mindfulness practices to help calm your nerves. It's important to be kind to yourself and remember that it's okay to make mistakes. Consider reaching out to a mental health professional for additional support and guidance.

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with social anxiety and feeling stressed about the upcoming presentation. It's understandable that you're feeling frustrated and confused about why you're feeling this way, especially when you used to enjoy and excel at these activities. It's important to remember that anxiety can sometimes be unpredictable and can manifest in different ways.
You mentioned that you're having difficulty believing in yourself, and that's completely understandable given the situation. It's important to remember that your worth is not defined by your ability to perform in certain situations. You are valuable and important regardless of how well you do in the presentation.
It can be helpful to take small steps to manage your anxiety, such as practicing deep breathing exercises, challenging negative thoughts, and visualizing a positive outcome. Additionally, seeking support from a therapist or counselor can be a valuable resource to help you work through these feelings and develop coping strategies.
Remember that you're not alone in this and it's okay to ask for help. Take things at your own pace and be kind to yourself. I believe in you and wish you all the best in managing your anxiety and feeling more confident in yourself.
Thanks for your reply. Reading it made me feel so much better .

Hi there @sunnyCranberry6945 , I am sorry to hear you are going through this. Firstly I would like to say well done because it sounds like you have great self-awareness about what you are feeling. I do hear that you are frustrated and you are struggling to believe in yourself. It sounds like a challenging situation. I am wondering, what does having your spark mean to you?
Hey, thanks for your reply. For me, having my spark means that I can still perform as well as I used to . I know I shouldn't put the past me on a pedestal but sometimes I can't help but compare my present to the past. Maybe I am trying to hold onto it.
@sunnyCranberry6945 I can understand how frustrating and overwhelming it must feel to experience social anxiety, especially when it affects your performance in school. It's important to remember that anxiety is a common and normal response to stressful situations, and it's something that you can work through. Have you considered seeking support from a counselor or therapist at your college? They can help you identify the underlying causes of your anxiety and develop coping strategies to manage it. Additionally, practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and mindfulness can help reduce anxiety in the moment. Remember to be kind to yourself and take it one step at a time. You can do this!

The transition from school to college can be a tough one. A lot of people go through it. You are still the same person who did great and had interest in such activities. Remember him.

As a student presentations or doing anything infont of the class made me anxious too. It is understandable these thoughts about doing not well with the presentation, how things have changed from the schoold days could makes it difficult. It is relatable that sometimes we feel lost and struggle find belief in ourselves. But I feel that you have it in you.
At times, when you find it difficult to figure out things on your own feel free to ask somone for help. Discussing and sharing things with someone might help big time. I also feel that as mentioned in the above replies practicing and getting help from your teachers and friend could also help.
