How do I learn to trust again?

After being burned so many times by people who say they love me, my new community, my group of friends are getting more upset with my inability to trust them, they won’t try and understand and become frustrated with me when I ask for reassurance, and I understand, but it makes me feel bread because as much as I’d like too, I’m scared, because so many people before them have told me that they love me and then showed me in time they don’t, so it’s really hard, I just really hate hearing lately “it’s not a try thing, it’s either you trust us or you don’t”

@DrapedInAmberI appreciate you sharing your struggles with trust and how it's impacting your relationships with your new community and friends. It's understandable that past experiences have left you feeling hesitant and fearful about trusting others, even when you desire to do so.

It's concerning to hear that your attempts to seek reassurance are met with frustration from your friends. Open communication can be a key factor in building understanding and empathy between individuals. If you feel comfortable, consider sharing more about your past experiences and the impact they've had on your ability to trust.

Remember, your feelings are valid, and it's okay to take the time you need. Rebuilding trust is a process that takes time, and it's okay to acknowledge your fears and uncertainties.

It's a process for sure. After being hurt so many times it's only natural to be weary. I had people who've used me and lied to me, told me they loved me when they didn't. Use me just to see how bad it would hurt when they left. So, when new people come along and try to shower me with compliments or be my friend I am quite cautious of them. Am I working on it? Yes, I am but it's not going to change overnight.

To me, trust isn't just about being open and honest but it's also feeling safe and understood. Being able to trust that my boundaries aren't breached upon. To trust this person won't just up and leave if something happens but be there for me as well. This is just the way I see trust.

Please don't be hard on yourself, and I hope your friends try to see things from your perspective. milk-and-mocha-love.gif

I'm really sorry to hear that you've been through so much, and I totally get why trusting again is a tough road for you. It's completely okay to feel scared and hesitant, especially when you've been let down before. It's like, you want to believe, but those past experiences make it hard. I can imagine it's frustrating for your friends, but it's not like you're not trying; it's just a process that takes time.

Have you thought about sharing a bit more about your past with them? Maybe if they understand where you're coming from, they'll be more patient and empathetic. It's not just a switch you can flip, and I wish they could see that. Asking for reassurance is a completely normal thing, and it doesn't mean you're not trying. Trust is something that grows gradually, and it's okay if it takes time. If you ever want to talk more about it or just vent, I'm here for you. 💙
