How to handle social anxiety when public speaking??

Hey y’all,

I’m having trouble presenting in one of my classes because I get really anxious in front of people. When I present not only does my voice get a little shaky but so does my body. I don’t know how to control it and it’s embarrassing that I have such a physical reaction when I have to speak in front of the class. Any tips?

@papaya7

Hello, I totally relate to this. What I did that helped me feel better and stop the shaking was I did some deep breathing beforehand. Not sure if that helps for you but it helped me feel less nervous when I present. Also, just practicing more in front of the mirror in front of your friends can help you feel more comfortable with the material you will present. When you feel as your body is beginning to shake, subtly clench your muscles to help to lessen and distract your brain from doing so. Lastly, just start small, presenting in front of smaller groups to become gradually exposed to public speaking. This is helpful if you are going to do activities that require public speaking because the more you practice, the better you'll get at it. Hope this helped :)

@papaya7 @papaya7 Hi. I also have social anxiety, so I understand how you feel. During presentations, I always remind myself to to breathe and slow down. This can really help calm your body and gain control of your voice, so it doesn't sound as shaky. This is something that really works for me and hopefully for you too.
