Thank you for opening up—it takes a lot of courage to ask for help, especially when you’re already feeling overwhelmed. You're not alone in this, and it's completely okay to want every bit of support you can get right now.

While everyone’s journey with social anxiety is a little different, here are some things that have genuinely helped others (and might help you too, even in small ways):

  • Tiny exposures: Starting small—like saying hi to a neighbor, ordering food yourself, or making one comment in a group chat—can build confidence slowly but surely. It’s not about being fearless, it’s about building up comfort with discomfort, bit by bit.

  • Reframing thoughts: A lot of people with social anxiety overthink how they’re perceived. Practicing the thought, “What if they’re not judging me?” or “I’m allowed to take up space” can shift how you engage with others.

  • Breathing techniques: Slowing down your breath when anxiety hits helps calm your nervous system. Even something as simple as 4 seconds in, 6 seconds out can ground you in the moment.

  • Routine check-ins with yourself: Journaling or even just noting your triggers and small wins can help you recognize patterns—and progress.

  • Supportive spaces: Talking to others who get it—like in this forum—can ease that feeling of being alone in what you’re going through. And if it feels right, therapy (especially CBT) can be incredibly helpful.

Please don’t underestimate how much strength it takes just to reach out. That matters. And even if progress feels slow, every small act of courage—like this post—is proof that you are moving forward. One step at a time. We’re here with you.
