How you cope with anxiety?
Hey everyone.
Each one who suffers from sudden anxiety triggered by specific situations or panic attacks need some on spot or a noticable solution too.
Can you suggest ways how you manage to cope up with it at the moment when faced with such situations that make you anxious?
@Josthetic
When I was going to therapy they would suggest picturing yourself someplace safe and happy. Maybe a vacation spot you went to full of good memories. Then name 5 things there that go with each of the five senses. So five things you could touch, taste, smell, see, and hear. I would always picture myself at the beach. I could feel the sand in my hands, the breeze in the air, the sun touching my skin, the water's cool touch, and the plastic of the inner tube I would always bring. It helps to calm me down when I start to feel overwhelmed. Like a centering or grounding approach. If I'm home or someplace I feel comfortable I will take my shoes off and stand or sit and just do deep breathing until my head clears. It really just depends on the situation. If my anxiety is linked to something I'm angry about then I might try counting backwards from 10 with deep breaths. It's really just a variety of methods for a variety of situations. For me not every situation that causes anxiety can be handled the same way so I like to pack an arsenal of coping mechanisms when I leave the house.

telling yourself you are safe and doing something to interrupt the feeling
What about when it's something you're avoiding? My job is giving me anxiety attacks. I have to work during the holidays if I want to meet deadlines, but I just don't want to. I feel like crying every tiene I sit in front of the computer. So I'm avoiding, and still feel terrible, knowing I'm not doing what I'm supposed to be doing. What do You do then?
I’m 37 and dealt with GAD for almost 20 years, plus I have a seizure problem which can be triggered by anxiety. I am self employed with an auto shop and my husband is an alcoholic. I have no support system bc all my family is dead now. Being my husband an alcoholic, he is also very controlling so friends are few. So how do I deal with this? I have a small Rx for emergency anxiety attacks, but also seizure triggers that I can’t take everyday bc my Dr is weird. Probably bc kids abuse this type of drug and she assumes I will fall in that category so whatever. So what do I do to stop the anxiety and avoid a possible black out? If I am at work, I may go back in the office and just sit down by the desk, look on the computer - some type of distraction. I have a parrot named Snoopy so I may just go by her for a minute. Anything to take my mind off what made me feel anxiety or weird. The brain is a complicated matter but I can be taken care of. Society today just aggravated a lot to make $$
Hi Trans Am. I’m 51 and I’ve been dealing with anxiety and depression for over 20 years so I can relate. I think my anti depressants have taken a break for the last month so I’m dealing with anxiety and depression as we speak. I’m a teacher and have been in Christmas break for the past two weeks and have tried to stay motivated but it’s hard. My Dr prescribed clonazepam when needed but the last month I’ve been taking 0.25mg in the morning and at night. It is a benzoid (spelling?) so I know the Drs need to be careful. I took it before and just weaned myself off but obviously had to get on it again. I’m also seeing a psychologist for the first time in 7 years. I also go for walks in the morning/late mornings and it really helps. Sorry I know I rambled

There are a number of strategies that you can try when you are facing a situation that triggers anxiety or a panic attack:
Practice deep breathing: Take slow, deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth to help calm your nerves.
Use positive self-talk: Remind yourself that you have coped with difficult situations in the past, and that you have the skills and resources to handle this situation as well.
Engage in relaxation techniques: Try progressive muscle relaxation, visualization, or mindfulness to help relax your mind and body.
I hope that helps, you are not in this. I hope you get better soon 💌
