I need help and support

I got eye tics ( excess blinking) when I was 13 yrs old and now i am 26. I was mocked and started to control it and monitor myself .after that I hv been suffering from hypervigilance, self monitoring and social Anxiety. I forgot how to be normal around people. I monitor and control my behaviour, expressions like how to see , where to see , etc and get headache, shoulder and stomach tightness. I am pretending like everything is okay but I am not living just surviving.

@crimsonTree6524 That sounds absolutely exhausting. Spending 13 years constantly monitoring yourself and trying to control something that is out of your control must be incredibly difficult. I can understand how childhood experiences of being mocked, made fun of, or ridiculed have translated into hypervigilance, anxiety, and physical symptoms, too. That must be terrible to go through every day, and I can see why you’d describe it as simply surviving rather than actually living.

I’m just about your age– I’m 24. I find that, as adults, we tend to understand and accept others in a way we maybe didn’t as kids. We have enough life experience and have met enough people to recognise the beautiful differences each and every one of us has, and how it creates a society that is unique and exciting to live in. No two people are the same, and that makes meeting and getting to know new people incredibly fun.

I say all this because I wonder what would happen if you let your guard down and didn’t monitor yourself? I wonder what would happen if you took babysteps– starting in therapy, or in a random store with people you’ll never see again, or your closest friends? I’m sure nobody would stop to ridicule you or think twice about it, especially the people who know and love you best. And, at the end of the day, it’s really those who are close to us who really matter, right?
