Rusty communication and awkward socialization.
This is strange for me to say/ask: Are there ways to help develop social skills after a decade of learning how to be afraid of people?
Im not sure how true many of these diagnoses are, but I’ve been told by a hand full of professionals and family that I’m “Bi-Polar”, “ADHD” “Depressed”, Trauma and PTSD inflicted with social anxiety. I’m currently taking 5 medications and still struggling to stay “normal”.
Pretty sure they aren’t helping me in the long run.
Id just like to get back to being a fun, adventurous, chill guy to hang out with, work with, and just be around.
I would love to find a good friend or friends that I could connect with and work on being social again.
I have a girlfriend and I’m not looking for anything along those lines. Just cool people who want to get better at communicating and growing back some social confidence.
im not sure if this is the correct way to use this app/platform. Please help me understand if I’m way off. I’m not on social media and haven’t wanted to start another addiction, so I’m trying to connect here.
thanks for taking the time to read this. :)
Hi. Thanks for reaching out. You are on the right track. It’s completely understandable to be anxious when talking to people because you are taught to be afraid of people. It’s great you have a goal in mind to turn into a chill guy with friends. You have the potential to achieve it.
I wish you knew that you are not defined by your diagnosis. A way to look at it is that ‘I am a person with (your diagnoses)’. Your diagnosis will not make you less human. You are also more than your diagnosis. You are a fun, adventurous guy remember? I hope you find friends here. You can also try to post another short post specifically looking for friends. Since you are a fun, adventurous guy, I thought it’s a good idea for you to try out adventurous things. In the meantime, you can join communities to get to know more people too. I wish you all the best.
