Switching Meds

Hi all, I’m just really struggling bad right now and I have anxiety so bad I can’t eat or barely leave my apartment. I just switched back to Paxil yesterday, which I had been on for 7 years and it was a miracle drug. I felt so good a few months ago I felt like I didn’t need it anymore so I switched to Lexapro. Over the past 2 weeks I’ve completely broken down with the stress of school and work and my mom had a health scare. We tried increasing the Lex to 20mg but the side effects were unbearable. My new Psychiatrist recommended I stop the Lexapro completely and go back to Paxil, 20mg for 1 week and then back up to 40.

I’ve been in such a dark place this past week. I’ve lost way too much wait and I don’t want to lose any more. I feel like I’ll never feel better. What if Paxil doesn’t work this time? What if I lose so much weight I get hospitalized? What if I flunk out of school (I’m almost done with my bachelors), what if I die? So many worries. I can’t sleep or eat and I just sit alone and cry all day. The only thing that takes the edge off right now and gets me through the day is my emergency Xanax, but I don’t want to get addicted to it. I’m just so scared and hopeless right now and I need reassurance.

I am so sorry you are struggling with so much anxiety. it is hard but you are strong. I encourage you to go back to the first medicine. I'm sure everything will get better over time.

@TaterNugget

You can try distracting yourself and forget about it for a while. Hope you get better

Hi, there. I totally understand severe anxiety. I was diagnosed way too late with that, PTSD, depression, and now, ADHD. My mind wouldn't stop racing with worry and just excessive, high speed thoughts. It's so exhausting. I've been on Zoloft 100mg for years now. Works great. Tried Wellbutrin, didn't do a thing. I hated Lexapro- so much jitteriness.

I really feel for u. It's a hard decision. Trying new meds is such a mixed bag, but I always went back to the first one cuz it worked.

I'm also supplementing with Calcium citrate at night, not the calcium in grocery stores. It quiets the thoughts and relaxes me, and now, I finally sleep through the night for the first time in over 40 yrs.

Hang in there. You're not alone, and you can always vent here.
