Thinking About Getting an ESA for Anxiety.....Do They Really Help?
Hey everyone,
I’ve been dealing with anxiety for a while now, and lately, I’ve been wondering if getting an Emotional Support Animal could actually make a difference for me. Some days it feels like even small things are hard to get through, and I’ve heard that an ESA can bring comfort and calm in those overwhelming moments.
At the same time, I know it’s not a quick fix, and it’s also a big responsibility. That’s why I don’t want to make this decision without hearing from people who’ve actually been through it.
If you’ve had an ESA (or even thought about getting one), I’d love to hear:
-
Did it help ease your anxiety in daily life?
-
What were the biggest positives?
-
Were there any downsides or challenges you didn’t expect?
I really just want to have an honest conversation about whether an ESA is the right choice, not just for me, but maybe for others who are thinking about the same thing.
Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences—it means a lot.

I have been dealing with anxiety for a while, and a few months ago I decided to adopt a cat. Her name is Luna, and she has honestly been the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. Just having her around makes the bad days feel a bit lighter.
When I found out I needed an ESA letter for my apartment, I had no idea where to even begin. A friend who went through the same thing with her dog told me about realesaletter.com, so I decided to give it a try. I was expecting a lot of hoops to jump through, but the whole process was surprisingly easy. I filled out some information, had a quick chat with a therapist, and got my letter not long after.
It was such a relief. I did not realize how much stress I was carrying about possibly not being able to keep Luna. Now I can just focus on feeling better and enjoying life with her.
