War Anxiety

This morning I heard about this country being one of the main targets for Russia. It scared me that much that I had to leave the room. Keeping informed about World events is important, but I can't face listening to news headlines or stories about potential war. Does anyone else feel the same?

Hello 😊

I am from a country on whose soil War World II actually started. And you know, I've heard this story of people in summer 1939 travelling to the seaside for vacation, going to restaurants, parties and dances, as if nothing happened. The bottom line is: you never know when the real war is coming.

I've read a book of some military man (who witnessed the war in Ukraine) who said (quite sarcastically) that a single clear sign that a war is coming are too many wealthy men's private jets taking-off and not coming back...

What would you think about not watching any mainstream media in the first place? I think that if you are experiencing anxiety issues, that could be fully justified. "Being informed" is just a media slogan, and might be not worth it...

It seems to be quite common that mass media are not to inform us, but to make us scared - to attract more viewers, to make more profits on advertising, or to capitalise human faith in political self-proclaimed "saviours", who will protect us from the worst (really?).

Also, the world is usually less black-and-white than depicted in the media. The mechanism behind that, I think, was quite well depicted in George Orwell's novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four" (and a movie based on it).

But... Let's stop talking about "the pink bear" - the one we should forget in the first place 😊

Do you have any passions or hobbies? What could happen if - instead of watching mainstream media - you had a daily portion of news about something that interests you the most?

If you have no particular hobbies, what about, for example, viewing some sections at 7 Cups, like "Positivity and Gratitude", "Journaling and Diaries" or "Icebreakers and Games"? Just to make your mind occupied with some positive thinking and something that brings you joy.

How you mind and body could feel when detoxicated from fear and the darkest scenarios?

Just a few days ago there was a few days long war between two large countries in Asia. And they both proclaimed victory. But I think the real winner here is global peace and humanity.

I am not sure if you remember the 1980s, when the world lived on the brink of disaster. But no world war happened. And the humanity fought back with a lot of great music and movies, and the most vivid hairstyles and fashion 😊

Hello.

Yes, I do have several hobbies which I have always enjoyed but now also distract me from frightening news.

As you say media scares rather than informs and I do keep away from it as it makes me feel more anxious, even simply seeing a headline that is in extreme language.
