im afraid im going to live a lonely life just because i cannot do nothing in order to get myself to meet new people. i mean i have friends but if you were to tell me "go and talk to that guy/girl over there" i would most definitely decline. i am not horrible looking i'd say im a 6-7/10 but i cant build up the courage to go to someone and just say "hi, im robert, what's your name?" i just cant. i also can't bring myself to open up to my friends. i had them pushing me for 3 hours to talk to a girl i liked at a party but to no avail. i want to open up to one of my friends because i know he wont judge me and support me, but at the same time my mind keeps telling me that he will distance himself from me and i dont want that.

@robert2106 That is understandable. Hopefully, they will not keep their distance. I hope, they listen to you and they are truly your friend. Time will tell. Making friends can be a hard thing. I hope, you can make some friends here at 7cups. As for real life, all you can do is try. If one person does not want to be your friend, it is not the end of the world. Not everyone, will be your friend. You will know, when you have a true friend. Please keep working at it. Making friends is a work in progress.

Hello. I understand loneliness is very debilitating and you seem helpless about the situation.

It sounds like you are avoidant. I hear that you have difficulty striking up a conversation even though you have a good image of yourself. Do you have a fear of rejection? The more you are afraid of rejection, the more you might be inclined to give up altogether before trying. Sometimes it’s inevitable some people might reject us but as long as you try, you are giving yourself a chance to succeed. After some time, you might get used to managing rejections but most importantly enjoying deeper and many more precious connections you have created with others.

I believe you can live a life with lots of socialising if you would like to. You have potential. There’s still a long way to go. You can adjust yourself to your liking. I hope you won’t limit yourself due to your challenges. Socialising is a skill which requires effort but when you get the hang of it, it can become quite fun. I wish you good luck.
