Derealization/depernolization
Hello all. I am 23 years old and have been going through a very hard time lately. I took an edible about a month an a half ago and had the worst panic attack ever. Ever since I haven't felt normal.
I am in California and i am a medical marijuana patient due to a painful skin condition I have. I had never done an edible only smoked and well when I did one my life changed.
I started feeling dispersonilization/derealization. Like everything doesn't look the same and sometimes when I talk I feel like it's automatic. It hard to explain if u haven't experienced it. This has been going on for a month and it's horrible. I don't feel like myself i am supper depressed because of it. I have always been depressed because of my skin condition but this made it x100.
I did start going to a therapist but idk if it is helping. My doc gave me Zoloft but I am scared to take it.
My question is has anyone ever felt this way and how have they how to overcome it
@Jojo1214 Your situation sounds scary and confusing. Did your doctor give you Zoloft specifically for this feeling? Or have you not told your doctor about it? I have never experienced this myself so I can not be of much help. Have you tried researching it? I truly hope someone is able to help you more.
@Jojo1214
Hell, Jojo. I am sorry you're going through this kind of confusing tough time right now. I have never used medical marijuana, but I think I might have experienced one part of depersonalization that you described. You said that your speech was automatic. Was it like you said something without thinking? I was surprised about what I said when that happened. I was wondering if checking out what other people have said when they have tried marijuana might be helpful for you. Like on a forum where people talk about their experiences with marijuana. I'm sure there's a list of symptoms that occur when you're under the influence of it but I think it differs by the individual. I hope that helps?
Hey @Jojo1214
Just wanted to add a little, to let you know that you are not alone in your experience of this. There are online forums dedicated to people going through this. Here is one in case you wish to connect with them at all! I've seen them speak about drug use before too, so hopefully they'll be able to give you tips or share their experience so that you can relate.
In addition, whilst my brother does not smoke, he does have derealisation and has depersonalisation disorder. Grounding techniques as mentioned by @cuddlyForest19 has also helped my brother immensely, as well as coping with anxiety/the traumatic event that triggered it. I would definitely look into trying some! Here's a list, for example. You may even find yourself coming up with your own.
There are online resources that can help. Then with that together with your therapist and doctor as well, I hope you can get the support and help you deserve! It must be absolutely awful, and no doubt difficult to even express. I'm sorry you're going through this right now, it sucks. But although it may take time, you can get through it.
So I really hope that you'll be able to overcome the struggles of this! All the best to you, and we're here to support you all the way
@QuickJazz
Seriously....thank you.
That's okay @spasticrabbit - Anytime at all!
Hope it helps too, of course. Even if it's just a starting point
@QuickJazz
It really does. I wandered around on that forum especially last night, and it did help me a bit. Also brightened my outlook. Bookmarked both pages and will be using them often. :) Have a great day!
Super-glad to hear that @spasticrabbit !
I haven't experienced it myself, but I have seen its development from the very first day in someone close to me. It really took a hold, and he developed Depression as a result too. However, I am happy to say that - although he still has it and is not sure it'll ever go away - it doesn't affect his enjoyment of life anymore as it used to. So I know that it is possible to get through it!
All the best to you and your journey with it too, and hope that you have a great day as well!
