Every time I go out on errands or whatever, I have this fear that I am going to see this person I used to work with and that, for some reason, she is going to have a negative reaction to me, such as to make me think she hates me. I miss her it since she left our office and I feel we got along well when she was there. She is a really nice person and has one of the nicest smiles I have ever seen. However, anything that makes me think she hates me or even no longer likes me as a friend, completely devastates me. That happened to me this morning for instance and now I am having trouble even focusing on my work. All I can think about as maybe this means I shouldn’t even be alive and I start fantasizing about ways I could just die and save myself from continued pain like this.

Hello,

you are not alone, i wanted to help and explain a few things to hopefully help you feel a bit better.

our mind is a very powerful thing that sometimes people don't realise it,when we're anxious or sad or mind makes us think of bad scenarious or bad thoughts, what we need to do is try to control them.

what you're describing happens to me for example when my boyfriend doesn't text me or call me for the entire day and it's very late, i start thinking of really negative thoughts or scenarious but then i try to control my thoughts, it's not easy but little by little you can get better.

i think what you need is support, talking to someone such as now is a very big and good step, well done.

If you feel like that try to talk to someone and clear your thougths, even if you can start putting one positive thing in there then it's a good start.

if you didn't leave things in bad terms with this person then you shouldn't worry but we all worry or overthink sometimes,it's just some minds work more than others , you just have to try and control it and i know from experience...i try to not overthink but still do.

You are not alone and i hope this helps a little.

As a matter of fact, I just had the same situation this morning. Actually several times I saw people who looked like her but who seemed negative towards me, as I was driving home from downtown in my town. I stressed about that for much of today but finally I remembered what my friend/former coworker is like, ie how nice she is etc, how we got along when she worked with me, and realized that, based on that, if I had run across her today, it would be likely have been a positive encounter not a negative one and that, based on that, one, I probably did not really even know these people, if they were seeming negative and, two, maybe their negativity related to something entirely unconnected from me. There were positive “lookalike encounters” too. Those would have been more likely to have been her, if anyone was...
