You're not the only one and you're definitely not crazy. Personally I'm not afraid of all water, as long as it's undeep it's fine, because I've never learned how to swim. When I reach the point I can't stand anymore though it definitely does scare me.
A fear of the water is not something you should feel ashamed for. It's natural that when traumatic things happen to us whilst swimming we develop a phobia for water because perhaps we associate what happened to us with the water itself.

@JoyIntoDarkness No worries. I wonder if there is some form of therapy that specialises in aquaphobia. A quick google search tells me there is! Check out this website , it seems to be pretty good. Another website tells me exposure therapy could be helpful. If you don't feel like getting professional help, perhaps someone close to you could assist you and offer support while you try and overcome your fear.

Definetly not the only one! I have had multiple experience with water, and am still scared, even four years after my last bad experience, to go into any deep water where I can't see the ground. Eek!

But any fear can be overcome if you want it!

@JoyIntoDarkness I have this too. For me it's more a fear of deep water. I love swimming! But I freak out if I'm in a swimming pool and can't touch the floor. I actually swam laps of my local pool last summer, just taking in deep breaths and I was so proud of myself.

I can understand why water is so frightening to you, it is immense. Do not feel as though your fear is weakening or humiliating. I hope that in time you are able to develop proper coping skills in order to manage this!

You are definitely not the only person that experienced this. Just know that you're not alone and there are ways to cope with it. What coping methods have you tried?

I am sure you are not the only one! I personally do not mind some forms of water, but the ocean absolutely terrifies me!! I'm so scared about the uncertainty and immensity of it. You are definitely not alone!
