Paranormal phobia
Hi... I have a phobia for paranormal things. My friends always talk about these things and I can't stop them. They are so interested. I have nightmares about it. During the day I'm afraid even of watching a mirror. I'm paralyzing in my bed, even right now. Please help.
I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but a lot of paranormal stuff isn't real :) Mirrors are just mirrors. There's also nothing in a dark room except all the same stuff that was in the room before when the light was on...your furniture, your desk, your books, etc. I figured this out a long time ago when I was a kid and my brother tried to scare me by turning off all the lights and leaving me in my room. I realized there was nothing in the room except my furniture. (My brother and I get along now haha!) One way you can experiment this is...get a shoe box and fill it with a few items. You can choose anything like a pencil, a toy, a deck of cards, etc. Then put the lid on the shoe box. Now it's "dark" inside the shoe box "room." Leave the room for a minute. Then come back. Open the lid and you'll see all the same objects are still in there. That means nothing special happens when it's dark. Everything stands still or stays the same. :) I hope that makes you feel better.
Mirrors can be really cool and really boring at the same time. How they work can be explained by physics, geometry and light. A mirror is a reflective surface that light does not pass through, but bounces off of and this produces an image. Mirrors are made by putting a thin layer of silver nitrate or aluminium behind a flat piece of glass. Water also has a similar reflective property and this is why we can sometimes see our reflections in a beautiful clear stream of water. Reflections have fascinated people throughout history and many people have written poetry or creative stories about it. Remember when Mulan sang, "when will my reflection show who I am inside?" Beautiful song and in the cartoon she looks at herself in water. But there's nothing to fear. There's only angles, reflections, refractions and light :) Check out this interactive website that teaches you how light bends. The link will show you how reflections and light works. I used to like playing around with this website: https://schoolyourself.org/learn/geometry/refraction
Also...have you tried telling your friends these conversations scare you and you want them to stop? Have you told them you get nightmares? One of my friends is the exact same as you. She told me she can't watch any scary movies at all or she'll get nightmares and be paranoid for days. I never knew she felt that way, so once I realized that, I never asked her to watch a scary movie with me again haha.
