ACT to Get Out of Your Thoughts
1. Focus on all the muscles in your torso. One by one, relax them. If they tense up again, just keep going. Free yourself up for everything next.
2. Take some deep breaths. Focus on the feeling of the air coming in and out. Slow down to think.
3. Reframe your thoughts. Move from "I feel, I think, I react by," and purposefully think "I'm having the feeling that, I'm having the thought that, I'm having the reaction of" instead. ex: "I'm having the feeling that I'm anxious for my upcoming test. I'm having the thought that I will fail. I'm having the reaction of rocking on my feet."
4. Know that you are not what happens to you. The thoughts in your head are words, they only have the power that you give them. You are able to choose how you respond to everything the world throws at you, and you got this.
